Managing an Information Literacy Needs Assessment Over Multiple Campuses

Abstract

The South University Libraries last performed a major assessment for information literacy instruction when creating an information literacy strategic plan in 2011. Since that time, changes in staffing, practices, and academic goals; coupled with low student performance in the annual Standardized Assessment of Information Literacy Skills (SAILS) tests, prompted the university librarians to initiate a needs assessment project to re-evaluate the libraries’ information literacy instruction plan. The steps and results of that project are discussed in relation to how they helped the libraries create an adaptable information literacy plan for multiple campuses spread across the United States.
